Marilyn Awoyomi MSW, RSW
Social Worker, Psychotherapist
Marilyn believes that the therapeutic relationship should be built on trust. She works collaboratively with clients to help them explore their difficulties, find hope, identify their strengths, set goals, and develop new coping strategies. When not working with clients you can find Marilyn at the playground or beach with her kids, practicing yoga and pilates, exploring the city, or on a solo walk for some quiet time.
Marilyn is a Registered Social Worker with clinical practice experience in the fields of addiction and mental health. Having spent the first part of her career as a social worker at the Centre for Addiction & Mental Health (CAMH), Marilyn has experience providing counseling to address a number of issues such as addiction, anxiety, depression, stress, and relationship problems. Marilyn has specialized experience working with family members who are concerned about a loved one’s addiction and mental health. A mother of two young children, Marilyn is keen to support the transition to parenthood and help women with birth and postpartum issues.
As a social worker, Marilyn is accustomed to working in an integrated care setting and takes a holistic approach to the issues facing her clients. She considers factors other than mental health (such as family, living environment, culture, and community) and works collaboratively with the team at Restore to help clients achieve their optimal health.
When working with family members of those struggling with addiction and mental health, Marilyn provides a safe and empathetic environment in which they can explore ways to support their family members while also setting boundaries and ensuring their own self-care. She draws from her skillset in cognitive-behavioural therapy, mindfulness-based stress reduction, motivational interviewing, and family systems therapy to help clients make positive changes in their lives.
Marilyn completed her Master of Social Work degree at the University of Toronto in 2011, specializing in mental health and health. She is a member in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers.
