How many times have you promised yourself that this would be the year you’d finally get on a good path with your health — lose weight, eat better, move more — only to find yourself starting over again in January?

So many women I’ve worked with have spent decades riding that same rollercoaster. All in, then all out. A new plan, a new reset, a new promise. Until a vacation, a long weekend, or the holidays come along… and suddenly it feels like you’ve “fallen off” again.

It’s exhausting. But honestly, it’s not your fault.

We were taught that healthy eating means perfection, that success comes from saying no, avoiding “bad” foods, and following rigid rules. But you already know: that kind of all-or-nothing thinking is exactly what keeps you stuck.

Because the moment life gets busy (and it always does), you stop.

And every time you stop, you lose a little more trust in yourself.

All or Something: The Secret to Consistency

“All or something” means doing something that keeps you connected to your goals, even when life gets messy.

Instead of giving up because you can’t do everything perfectly, you choose one or two things that still move you forward.

It’s the difference between:

  • Saying “I blew it” after one indulgent meal vs. simply enjoying it (slowly!) and getting back to your normal routine.
  • Skipping your workout because you don’t have an hour vs. doing a 20-minute routine or a quick 15-minute walk.
  • Eating “whatever” all weekend vs. making sure one meal a day still includes protein and veggies.
  • Those small “somethings” add up. They keep your body and mind steady, and they build the kind of consistency that leads to lasting results.

You Don’t Have to Earn Your Food (or Punish Yourself for Enjoying It)

Holidays are about connection, laughter, and sharing food, and yes, that might mean desserts, drinks, and a little extra everything. That doesn’t mean you’ve failed or “fallen off.” It means you’re human.

Food isn’t a moral test. You don’t have to “make up for it” the next day or “start fresh” Monday morning.

Instead, remind yourself:

You can enjoy food without guilt.

One meal (or one weekend) doesn’t erase months of progress.

Nourishing your body includes joy, flexibility, and permission to live your life.

How to Keep Your Momentum (Even When Life Gets Busy)

Here are a few ways to practice “all or something” during the holidays and beyond:

Keep protein a priority. It supports energy, muscle, and your immune system, and helps you feel satisfied longer. Even when meals are less structured, make sure protein shows up somewhere.

Add, don’t restrict. Instead of focusing on what you “shouldn’t” eat, focus on what you can add, like a veggie, a handful of berries, or an extra glass of water.

Move in ways that feel good. You don’t need a perfect week of workouts. Walks, dancing in your kitchen, or stretching all count. I ask my Midlife Warriors to aim for two workouts a week. Want accountability? We’d love to have you.

Stay mindful, not rigid. Enjoy your food. Taste it. Put your fork down between bites. Slow down.

Drop the guilt. Seriously. It doesn’t burn calories or change outcomes, it only steals your joy.

This Time, Let’s Do It Differently

You’ve spent too many years starting and stopping.

This time, let’s stop “starting over.” Let’s keep going, imperfectly, joyfully, and consistently.

Because you don’t need another diet. You need a way of eating, moving, and living that fits your real life, through holidays, long weekends, vacations, and everything in between.

When you choose “all or something,” you finally break the cycle.

You stay connected to yourself.

And you begin to trust that you can enjoy life and take care of your body, at the same time.

So this holiday season, raise a glass (of wine, water, or eggnog — your choice!) to a new mindset:

✨ No more guilt.

✨ No more restarts.

✨ Just consistency, kindness, and the freedom to live well all year long.

You deserve that.
